It all start today on Facebook.
I went to check Brad (Facebook friend) pictures he took of The Trews.
I told him he had great shots and told me:
“Your shots are what I strive for. I’ve used them many-a-time as a desktop image. I also follow what I call the “Nancy Rule” in that I don’t post bad pics of the boys. Haha.”
He’s right, I rarely posted a bad pictures of any bands I took pictures of. Okay maybe I did at the beginning until Colin (The Trews singer) told me that I never post bad pictures of them. Colin is someone who cares about he’s image, what he will looks like and that is a good thing cause image is important. Since he told me that..it became my rule.
On my facebook status I wrote:
“One rule I had in concert photography: never post a blurry – ugly pictures of the band
I was taking pictures of.. my job was recreating the emotion I got when I took the picture..”
Well ..I’ve been asked to specify “blurry”.
Here’s an example.
The picture on the left (click on the picture).. there’s no point of posting a picture like this.. It’s just.. a bad picture. The one on the right, hands are blurry but there’s movement. Totally different results.
I won’t talk about ugly pictures cause what is ugly, what looks good is a matter of taste. Each person have their own opinion and that’s okay. I can say someone look awful and you’ll think that person look incredible but I will never put out there a picture that I consider bad. When I take pictures of band or a picture of someone and Im not sure about it.. there’s always one question I asked myself.. If it was me on the picture, would I like to see it out there? no.. then don’t post it.
One mistake people do is not editing their pictures. I see some photos with bad cropping, image is pixelate.. etc… At the beginning I was against it but I understand pretty quickly that the pictures would look way much better. Here’s an example.. the picture on the left is not edited and the one on the right is..
I just want to be clear on something.
Here I am not talking about fans pictures.
Im talking about people who posted pictures and wants to get better results… who would like to be in front of the fence or side of the stage taking pictures of an artist.
The advice I would give is : Show only your best work.
